Yana Pomerants

My name is Yana Pomerants and I am the founder of TutorHolistic. I have discovered my passion for teaching back in college when I began working at an after-school tutoring center. Since then I have held various jobs in education and have tutored students of all ages. My specialty is Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). I am very patient and understanding with my students. I like to let my students discover their strength and then build on them. I am extremely passionate about health, proper nutrition and exercise. I know that in order to excel in life, one must value all aspects of life including the physical, the mental, and the spiritual.
In my free time I enjoy spending time outdoors, hiking, camping, and swimming. I also love history and visiting museums. I enjoy history and the people I admire are: Booker T. Washington, Frederick Douglass, and Abraham Lincoln.

Andrew Williams

Andrew is a tutor that emphasizes anxiety-free learning in order to ensure his tutees expand their critical-thinking skillset. He has seven years of experience tutoring English and Spanish literature, writing and rhetoric. Andrew obtained a B.A. in Philosophy, Law and Ethics (Property Law Concentration) and is a prospective J.D. candidate at the University of Baltimore School of Law. An entrepreneur at heart, Andrew enjoys checking out new technological advancements. He enjoys learning about different cultures, countries and foreign languages. He also enjoys checking out urban spaces and creatively-designed buildings and monuments.

Chelva Jalloh

Chelva E. Jalloh holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Mass Communication (B.A.), a Master’s Degree in Education and Human Development (M.A. Ed.H.D.), a Master’s Degree in Educational Administration (M.S.A) and a Doctorate of Religious Education (D.R.E.). She has worked at various radio stations, served as a school counselor, teacher, and a facilitator for her practice in religious, expressive arts. Chelva’s interests include reading, writing poetry, conducting creative, expressive arts activities, and learning more about religion. In the past she had also played the piano, and I enjoyed playing tennis. Throughout her lifetime, Chelva had traveled extensively overseas, she is always excited to meet people from different countries and learn about different cultures. Chelva is married, and a member of a local church, and a sorority. She loves working with students and encouraging them to be lifelong learners.

John Ruehl

John Ruehl is an Australian-American who received his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Sydney, majoring in international relations and United States studies. He has a Master’s degree in conflict and development from the Universidad Jaume I in Spain. John has over 10 years’ experience tutoring. He had worked as a teacher’s assistant in public schools providing support to children with emotional challenges and children diagnosed with autism. In addition to tutoring, John is a freelance writer, and he loves to go for long walks or a spontaneous trip.

Kris Hypolite

Kristan (Kris) Hypolite has a Master’s Degree in Education with a specialization in Special Education (M. Ed). As a veteran of urban education, Kris believes that teaching is a reciprocal process. Kris had served as a Special Education Coordinator, Special Education teacher, and General Education teacher inside the classroom. He also had served as an Afterschool Coordinator, Lego Coach, Chess Coach, Tennis Coach, Robotics Coach, Financial Coach and PTSA Treasurer outside the classroom. As a Financial Coach, Kris enjoys showing students and adults how money works and how to build generational wealth. In his free time, Kris enjoys reading, sports, music, history, museums, and traveling. He likes meeting different people and learning different cultures and customs from around the world. Kris admires Frederick Douglas, Carter G. Woodson, Marcus Garvey, and Mansa Musa.

Krystyna Cios

Krystyna Cios graduated from the University of Virginia in December 2020 with a Bachelor of Arts in Neuroscience and Economics. She is starting medical school this summer and hopes to specialize in pediatric medicine. As a tutor, she has helped students in topics ranging from K-12 reading and math through college biochemistry. Krystyna believes that every student is capable of enjoying, not just succeeding in, education. Her tutoring style taps into student’s natural curiosity to drive learning and incorporates real-world examples to highlight the importance of certain skills/concepts. Krystyna is an avid reader, runner, skier, and board game-player. Combining her interests in skiing and teaching, she volunteers as an adaptive ski guide on the weekends to teach disabled people this great sport!

Linda Winer

Linda Winer is a public school teacher with 23 years of experience in the District of Columbia Public Schools. She taught English, American History, geography and reading in the middle school level. She strongly believes that all children are teachable, and that a good classroom curriculum should be rigorous and engaging, taking into account individual differences in learning. Linda was educated at Boston University and holds a BS Degree and an ED.M degree in history and education. She has attended numerous stipend awarded colloquiums with the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History and, more recently, with the Teaching of American History. Linda is an avid reader and belongs to the Folger Shakespeare Theater Book Club which meets monthly. In addition Linda loves to travel and staying active. She can often be found exercising in a pool and working out at a local fitness center.

Myles Gladstone

Myles Gladstone attended and graduated from the University of Vermont with honors. At the University of Arizona, he took several courses supplementing his Spanish training as well as courses in the Department of World Studies. Teaching and mentoring children has been Myles’ source of daily fulfillment for many years. Myles has the ability to connect quickly and completely with kids of all ages which produces a strong bond when teaching. Myles had worked in Venezuela, El Salvador, Mexico and the United States, including Puerto Rico. He would be delighted to have the opportunity to help families by exploring the skills of the students.

Shafi Noss

After a gap year in Japan, Shafi Noss studied physics and philosophy at Lawrence University and then Reed college before departing to work on a small business and tutor. He was a National Merit Semifinalist and is now a member of MENSA and have worked with students at all levels in both math and language. Shafi says that tutoring has been one of the most rewarding things that he has done. In his free time, Shafi likes playing piano, composing music, animation and eating lots of blueberries.
